Snapchat has unveiled a major update designed to enhance Teen Privacy, introducing a new friends-only content-sharing experience for users aged 13 to 15. The latest feature provides younger Snapchatters with a dedicated profile where they can create, save, and showcase Stories and Spotlight videos exclusively with their mutually accepted friends.
The update reflects Snapchat’s ongoing commitment to building safer digital experiences while empowering younger users to express themselves in a secure online environment.
A Dedicated Sharing Space for Younger Snapchatters
The newly introduced experience gives teenagers between 13 and 15 years old access to a personalized profile that allows them to create and organize Stories and Spotlight content without exposing it to public audiences.
Instead of sharing content broadly across the platform, all posts created through these profiles remain visible only to friends who have mutually accepted each other’s requests, helping preserve authentic relationships and trusted social connections.
Public Spotlight Distribution Restricted for Users Under 16
As part of the latest update, Snapchat has removed the ability for users under the age of 16 to publish Spotlight content that can be viewed by non-friends.
This change ensures that younger users share their content only within their trusted network, significantly strengthening privacy protections while reducing exposure to unknown audiences.
The company said the move reinforces its long-standing philosophy of designing experiences that prioritize safety without limiting creativity and self-expression.

Age-Based Features Tailored to Different Users
The update forms part of Snapchat’s broader age-based framework for content sharing.
Users aged 13–15 can only share content with mutually accepted friends.
Teenagers aged 16–17 can access public sharing features while benefiting from additional safeguards, limited content distribution, and parental visibility tools.
Meanwhile, users aged 18 and above continue to enjoy full access to Snapchat’s public profiles and public content distribution capabilities.
Enhanced Privacy and Built-In Safety Protections
The new experience complements Snapchat’s existing suite of safety tools designed specifically for younger users.
These protections include strict privacy settings enabled by default, safeguards against unwanted contact, proactive content moderation, and Family Center, Snapchat’s parental supervision platform that helps families stay informed while respecting teenagers’ privacy.
Together, these measures create a safer environment that supports responsible online interaction.
Supporting Creativity While Protecting Young Users
Snapchat emphasized that sharing everyday moments with friends remains at the heart of its platform.
The latest update allows younger users to create, save, and share content in a more private environment while maintaining age-appropriate safeguards that balance creativity, self-expression, and digital safety.
By continuously evolving its platform, Snapchat aims to provide experiences that meet the changing needs of younger generations while reinforcing trust, privacy, and responsible online engagement.
