Abu Dhabi (DoE) has unveiled further details of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week (ADWPW) – Special Water Edition 2026, positioning the new event as a platform for international dialogue, investment, innovation and practical solutions to address the evolving challenges facing the global water sector.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the inaugural edition will take place from 8 to 10 December 2026 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, alongside the United Nations Water Conference 2026, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and the Republic of Senegal.
Abu Dhabi brings global water leaders together
The Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi hosted a media briefing to provide additional details about the upcoming event and its programme, which is designed to bring together policymakers, investors, utilities, technology pioneers and international organisations.
Through an integrated programme, Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week will provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, strengthen cooperation and examine practical approaches capable of enhancing water resilience while supporting sustainable economic development.
The programme will feature three flagship summits: the Policy and Regulation Summit, the Finance and Investment Summit, and the Technology and Innovation Summit, in addition to a series of strategic collaborations and engagements.
Three summits focus on policy, investment and innovation
The Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi outlined the main themes that will shape the three flagship summits during the week.
The Policy and Regulation Summit will focus on developing governance and regulatory frameworks capable of supporting water resilience and responding to the changing requirements of the sector.
The Finance and Investment Summit will examine opportunities to finance and invest in water infrastructure projects, with a focus on strengthening the investment environment and supporting the development of resilient water systems.
Meanwhile, the Technology and Innovation Summit will address ways to accelerate the adoption of technology and innovation, with the aim of developing more efficient and sustainable solutions for the water sector.
Together, the three summits will provide an integrated platform connecting policy, capital, infrastructure, technology and innovation around the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of water.
Strategic engagements to strengthen sector cooperation
The programme will also feature a range of strategic engagements designed to encourage cooperation and facilitate knowledge exchange among stakeholders from across the water and energy sectors.
Among the highlights will be the 4th Abu Dhabi Water & Power Majlis, alongside showcases presenting the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the water sector.
The event will also feature announcements of strategic partnerships, further reinforcing its role as a meeting point for institutions, companies, investors and innovators seeking to collaborate on practical solutions.
New platform and Youth Water Program
As part of its comprehensive agenda, Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week will include the launch of a specialised platform aimed at supporting innovation and practical solutions to challenges facing the water sector.
The week will also introduce the Youth Water Program, developed in collaboration with a number of academic institutions.
The programme is designed to attract talented young people and empower them to develop innovative and practical solutions to water-related challenges.
The Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi has invited young people interested in taking part in the initiative to register and submit their applications through the department’s website.
Abu Dhabi Pavilion showcases the emirate’s water journey
Another major feature of the week will be the Abu Dhabi Pavilion, which will offer visitors an integrated and interactive experience spread across 55 stations.
The pavilion will trace Abu Dhabi’s journey from its rich heritage through its achievements today and its ambitions for the future.
It will showcase key milestones and transformations that have contributed to the development of the emirate’s water system, while presenting Abu Dhabi’s broader journey and its vision for a more sustainable future.
Through this experience, the pavilion will highlight the evolution of the emirate’s water sector and the role of long-term planning, innovation and development in building a more sustainable and resilient system.
Ahmed Al Rumaithi: Practical solutions are central to the event
His Excellency Eng Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, said Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week would contribute to global efforts aimed at strengthening water resilience and accelerating the development of practical solutions capable of responding to growing demand and future challenges.
He highlighted the importance of bringing policymakers, investors, industry leaders and innovators together in Abu Dhabi to strengthen collaboration, support investment and accelerate the adoption of technologies and solutions that can be deployed and scaled.
Al Rumaithi said the week seeks to deliver tangible outcomes that can contribute to a more efficient and resilient water sector, support sustainable economic growth, and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a global centre for collaboration and innovation across the water and energy sectors.
Abdulaziz Al Obaidli: Water security is fundamental to long-term prosperity
His Excellency Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Obaidli, Director General of Regulatory Affairs at the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, emphasised the strategic importance of water security to the emirate’s resilience and long-term prosperity.
He said the approach adopted by Abu Dhabi is based on forward planning and on bringing together governance, infrastructure, investment and innovation as components of an integrated system capable of responding to growing demand and changing conditions.
According to Al Obaidli, Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week will build on this approach by bringing international partners together around practical solutions that can strengthen water resilience, support the continuity of essential services and enable sustainable economic growth.
