BE WTR

BE WTR hosted a high-profile sustainability roundtable at W Hotel Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina to mark World Earth Day. The event brought together leading voices from hospitality, sustainability, media, and community initiatives to explore the future of environmental responsibility in the UAE.

A platform for meaningful sustainability dialogue

The roundtable highlighted the growing importance of ESG practices and circular economy models in the region. Discussions focused on how local luxury and hospitality brands are already integrating sustainable practices and how these efforts can be translated into clearer, consumer-facing actions that encourage responsible consumption.

Expert panel driving the conversation

The session was moderated by Rachel Redfern and featured a distinguished panel including Mike Hecker, Amit Nayak, Amanda Grögor, Omar Shihab, and Jennifer Sault, alongside sustainability advocates and industry leaders.

Focus on UAE’s homegrown sustainability model

The discussion explored the evolving concept of “homegrown sustainability” in the UAE, emphasizing localization, resilience, and supply chain strength. Speakers highlighted how sourcing locally reduces environmental impact while strengthening national economic development and improving operational efficiency.

Transparency, ESG reporting, and consumer trust

A key theme throughout the session was transparency. Participants stressed the importance of clear ESG reporting and open communication between brands and consumers as essential tools for building trust and enabling informed decision-making in a rapidly evolving sustainability landscape.

Balancing sustainability with commercial viability

The panel addressed the commercial realities faced by sustainability-driven businesses. Experts noted that long-term success requires balancing environmental responsibility with financial performance, while embedding sustainability into core business operations rather than treating it as an optional initiative.

Technology, data, and the fight against greenwashing

The conversation also highlighted the role of technology in tracking waste, improving efficiency, and enabling measurable impact. Social media’s growing influence in exposing greenwashing and increasing public awareness was also discussed as a powerful force shaping consumer behavior.

BE WTR’s circular water innovation

Mike Hecker emphasized that BE WTR operates on a fully circular model, where glass bottles are reused up to 300 times. The company produces premium filtered water at the point of consumption, reducing reliance on imported bottled water and significantly lowering environmental impact.

Embedding sustainability into hospitality culture

Amit Nayak highlighted that sustainability must be embedded into daily operations and decision-making processes across the hospitality sector. Meanwhile, Omar Shihab emphasized the importance of data-driven approaches and local sourcing in reducing waste and improving efficiency.

Circular economy and responsible consumption

Amanda Grögor pointed to growing environmental momentum in the UAE, driven by initiatives such as mangrove restoration and ESG commitments. She also emphasized the role of policy tools, including potential plastic taxation, to drive behavioral change across industries.

Redefining sustainable consumption

Jennifer Sault stressed the importance of positioning sustainability as a desirable mainstream choice. She highlighted how circular fashion models and second-hand consumption can significantly reduce landfill waste and reshape consumer expectations.

Behind-the-scenes circular model showcase

Following the discussions, attendees toured BE WTR’s bottling facility to witness its circular production model firsthand. The system demonstrates how locally sourced water is filtered and bottled in reusable glass containers designed for up to 300 uses, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

UAE’s growing leadership in sustainability

The event reaffirmed the UAE’s position as a regional leader in sustainability and innovation. BE WTR’s Earth Day roundtable not only celebrated local achievements but also set the foundation for continued collaboration, dialogue, and measurable environmental impact.
