AMD powers Eni’s new HPC6 supercomputer, one of the world’s most powerful for industrial applications
Eni, a leading energy company, has announced the construction of HPC6, a new high-performance
computing system powered by AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs. HPC6 will boast a peak
performance of 600 petaflops, marking a significant leap from the combined 70 petaflops of Eni’s
current systems, HPC4 and HPC5.
AMD’s technology plays a crucial role in HPC6, showcasing its commitment to providing cutting-edge
solutions for the world’s most demanding computing challenges. This collaboration also positions
AMD as a key partner in Eni’s journey towards a sustainable future, with HPC6 being more energy
efficient, minimizing carbon emissions. HPC6 will be located in a dedicated area within ENI’s Green
Data Center, where a new liquid cooling system has been built to further enhance its efficiency and
sustainability.
Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, stated: “Through this initiative, we continue to demonstrate our
technological leadership, reaffirming Eni’s role in supercomputing and relaunching our ambitions
through dedicated infrastructure. This project underlines our ongoing commitment to innovation and
digitalisation, while also supporting our energy transition process.
