Kia EV5

The Kia EV5 has strengthened its position in the competitive electric SUV market after securing first place in a comparative evaluation conducted by renowned German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

The EV5 GT-Line finished ahead of several major competitors from the United States and China, demonstrating strong performance across key areas linked to everyday driving, safety, comfort and vehicle usability.

The result adds another major achievement to the growing list of awards and comparative test successes for Kia.

EV5 Wins Four of Seven Categories

The Kia EV5 GT-Line was assessed across seven categories: body design, safety, convenience, powertrain, driving performance, environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness.

The Korean electric SUV won four of those categories, taking top honors for body design, safety, convenience and driving performance.

The strong results helped the EV5 GT-Line secure 588 points in the final ranking, finishing 31 points ahead of the second-placed vehicle with 557 points. The third- and fourth-placed models scored 541 and 528 points respectively.

Strong Result for EV5 Design

The Kia EV5 scored 100 points in the body design category, finishing 24 points ahead of its US rival.

Auto Motor und Sport highlighted the SUV’s elevated seating position and extended hood, which contribute to a confident and open driving environment. The vehicle also offers spacious and comfortable seating, generous second-row room and cargo capacity ranging from 566 to 1,650 liters.

The result reflects the EV5’s focus on combining a distinctive SUV design with practical space for everyday and family use.

Safety Performance Gives EV5 a Clear Advantage

Safety was another major strength for the Kia EV5, which established a 29-point advantage over its closest competitors in the category.

One of the key factors behind the result was its braking performance. The EV5 recorded the shortest braking distance across the entire test, achieving stopping distances of 35.1 meters and 35.0 meters under cold and warm conditions respectively when braking from 100 km/h to a complete stop.

Convenience Built Around the Driver

The EV5 also claimed the top position in the convenience category by an 11-point margin.

Test judges highlighted the vehicle’s direct controls for regenerative braking and its one-pedal driving function, which can be adjusted using paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

The approach gives drivers greater control over the driving experience while making key functions readily accessible.

Refined Driving Performance

The Kia EV5 continued its strong showing in the driving performance category, winning by nine points.

Reviewers praised the vehicle for its stable handling over uneven road surfaces and its refined driving experience, reinforcing the model’s focus on comfort and controlled performance.

Combined with its results in the other categories, the performance helped the EV5 GT-Line establish a decisive lead in the overall standings.

Extensive Testing Supports Kia’s Quality

The latest victory follows a series of group-test and award successes for Kia and highlights the company’s extensive engineering and validation processes.

Before reaching customers, Kia vehicles undergo a broad range of digital and physical evaluations involving prototypes, proving grounds and public roads.

Engineers test vehicles across different road surfaces and weather conditions while continuously refining ride and handling, reliability, efficiency, packaging and ergonomics.

A Kia official said the strong scores were particularly meaningful in areas directly experienced by drivers every day, including braking performance and operational convenience. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to real-world usability and safety as it works to strengthen customer confidence.

EV5 Brings Electric Power to the C-SUV Segment

The Kia EV5 is the brand’s latest model in the highly competitive C-SUV segment.

Designed as a versatile five-seat electric SUV for families, the vehicle is built on Kia’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and follows the brand’s “Opposites United” design philosophy.

Its exterior features a bold, boxy profile, signature Star Map LED lighting and a modern high-tech interpretation of Kia’s distinctive tiger face.

Up to 329 Miles of Range

All EV5 versions are equipped with an 81.4 kWh long-range battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor.

The setup delivers a maximum range of up to 329 miles on a single charge, while fast-charging technology allows the battery to be replenished from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

These specifications position the EV5 as a practical option for drivers seeking a combination of long-distance capability and convenient charging.

A Technology-Focused Interior

Inside, the Kia EV5 combines comfort, practicality and advanced technology.

The cabin features a unified panoramic display incorporating a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 5.3-inch climate control display.

The second-row seats can also fold completely flat, creating additional cargo space and increasing the vehicle’s versatility for active lifestyles.

GT-Line Adds Sporty Styling and More Technology

The EV5 GT-Line tested by Auto Motor und Sport adds exclusive design and equipment features aimed at buyers seeking a more dynamic appearance and enhanced functionality.

The variant features more aggressive front and rear bumpers, high-gloss black exterior details and distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels.

The GT-Line comes standard with front-wheel drive, while an optional all-wheel-drive system adds a 35-kilowatt rear induction motor to increase power, torque and traction.

V2L Technology Enhances Everyday Usability

Technology remains a central element of the EV5 GT-Line, which comes standard with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.

The system allows owners to power external electronic devices directly from the vehicle’s high-voltage battery.

Additional convenience features include a wireless smartphone charging pad, customizable ambient lighting and a smart power tailgate, further expanding the EV5’s role as a technology-focused electric SUV.
