OCA

Tencent Esports and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have officially announced a comprehensive ten-year strategic partnership spanning 2025–2035, marking a new era in Asian esports development. Under the agreement, Tencent Esports becomes the Official Esports Technology Partner of the OCA, moving beyond event support to a phase of “system co-construction” focused on technology, standards, and ecosystem development. This partnership aims to integrate esports with traditional sports, setting a long-term vision for the growth of Asian esports.

A Decade of Trust and Collaboration

This collaboration builds on years of successful engagement, beginning with esports’ debut as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, continuing through a strategic upgrade in 2022, and culminating in esports’ recognition as an official medal event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. The long-term partnership was formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the OCA Executive Board meeting in Bahrain in October 2025.

Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports, has been appointed OCA Esports Manager, playing a pivotal role in co-constructing the Asian esports system and driving ecosystem development across the continent.

Leadership Endorsement and Vision

Dr. Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the OCA, stated:
“This partnership represents more than a title upgrade—it unifies responsibility and marks a transition from esports participation to system co-construction. Working with Tencent Esports, we aim to set a sustainable example for healthy esports development in Asia and globally.”

Launching the Tencent Esports Competition System (ECS)

Building on its success at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, Tencent Esports will introduce the Tencent Esports Competition System (ECS). Aggregating experience from top-tier tournaments, the ECS will provide end-to-end, high-availability technical support for future Asian Games and major regional events, ensuring competitions run with stability, fairness, and efficiency.

The system, combined with Tencent Esports’ operational and ecosystem expertise, will also contribute technical solutions and standards to support the digital transformation of major Asian tournaments, improving credibility and operational efficiency while driving high-quality industry development.

The Tri-Pillar Drive: A Blueprint for Asian Esports

Hou Miao, Vice President of Tencent Games and General Manager of Tencent Esports, introduced the “Tri-Pillar Drive” model, outlining the partnership’s long-term vision:
“The future of esports depends on a tripartite synergy: the Publisher Tech Ecosystem as the engine of innovation, Continental and Global Sports Organizations like the OCA as the authoritative platform, and National/Regional Esports Strategies as the implementation fulcrum. This decade-long collaboration with the OCA will put this model into practice, creating a sustainable, robust ‘Asian Path’ for esports and establishing it as a recognized part of global mainstream sports.”
