Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, and Honorary Patron of Dubai Quality Group (DQG), the Dubai Quality Group, in collaboration with Balsam Academy for Medical Education and Research, has officially announced the launch of the 2nd cycle of the Global Medical Excellence Award 2025.
Applications will open globally for public and private healthcare institutions starting September 10, 2025, marking another milestone in Dubai’s commitment to fostering healthcare innovation and excellence.
Driving Innovation and Excellence in Healthcare
The award is designed to encourage innovation, institutional excellence, and the implementation of international best practices in the medical field. It further aims to enhance sustainability, resilience, and performance across the healthcare sector, positioning the UAE as a global hub for medical excellence and medical tourism.
Statement from Dubai Quality Group
Ms. Samira Mohammed, Director General of Dubai Quality Group, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
She stated that the award promotes a culture of excellence and quality in healthcare, empowers medical professionals on local, regional, and international levels, and encourages innovation rooted in patient safety, efficiency, ethical practice, and medical responsibility.
Updated Award Categories in the Second Cycle
For the 2025 cycle, the award framework has been expanded and enhanced to cover new categories, including:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Individuals
- Medical Education
Participants will be evaluated based on rigorous criteria and recognized under Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels following comprehensive desk assessments and site visits.
Ms. Mohammed further stressed the Group’s commitment to transparency and impartiality, supported by a carefully selected award management and evaluation team, adhering to international standards.
Application Timeline and Award Ceremony
The application process will run for two and a half months starting mid-September 2025, providing ample preparation time for participants. After submission and evaluation, qualified institutions and individuals will undergo site visits before final winners are revealed.
The awardees will be honored at an official ceremony by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, underscoring the prestige of this global healthcare initiative.
Integration with the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Conference
Dr. Bassam Darwish, Founder and President of Balsam Academy for Medical Education and Research, highlighted the award’s strategic timing, coinciding with the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Conference.
The two-day event, held in collaboration with the International Society for Medical Artificial Intelligence, will gather around 30 international experts and speakers. It aims to empower medical students, doctors, nurses, decision-makers, and charities to harness AI technologies for advancing healthcare and improving quality of life.
As part of the conference, distinguished figures and institutions in medicine and humanitarian fields will also be recognized under the “Godfather of Medicine in the UAE” initiative, honoring the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
